Go Back in Time
A dental implant can give you back your original smile.
The development and use of dental implants represents one of the most significant advances in dentistry in generations. This has been made possible with the discovery and innovation of materials that can be put into the body. The implants are inserted into your jawbone where they are used as anchors for the new teeth. The new teeth are made to match the patient’s other teeth.
There are usually (3) phases of a tooth implant process.
Dental implant placement.
The implant (or post) is surgically placed into the jawbone. The dentist numbs the area and makes a small cut in the gum to expose the jawbone. The jawbone is drilled precisely to accept the implant. The implant is then screwed into the jawbone. It is then allowed to heal.
Osseointegration.
This word by definition means to heal into the bone. It is the process where the jawbone is given time to heal and mesh with the post. The implant location becomes much stronger once the jawbone meshes with the implant. Osseointegration can take from (1) month to (3) months depending on the individual.
You get your new tooth and new smile!
An abutment or attachment piece is secured to the implant. The new crown is made to look identical to your other teeth. The size, shape, and color will all be considered prior to final fit. The final crown may take some time to make. During this time a temporary crown is attached to the implant. The temporary crown ensures that the patient can eat and talk without any dilemmas. The temporary crown is only used until the permanent crown is ready.
Patients who have received implants find them to be the most effective way to repair their teeth problems. Dental implants have proven to be an effective long term solution to missing teeth.
If you are interested in tooth implants, talk to your dentist on your next visit. Your dentist will want to talk to you about your concerns and ask about any health concerns. Certain diseases, medications, and chronic ailments could be a concern and require further evaluation.
